Do you need free SSL for your web and email service? You may try StartSSL, they provide 128 SSL for free. To manage your certificate, visit control panel but ensure that SSL client ceritifate is installed on your browser. This client certificate is installed while you signup. Thus, you may only access to your control panel by the browser that installed client certificate. Please refer to its the FAQ page for install, backup certificate.

Optimization trick for slow Internet connection

Here are two steps to optimize your Internet connection. Note this is only optimization steps, not a magic to speed up your Internet access :).

Optimize Windows QoS scheduler:
By default, Windows reserves 20% of bandwidth for its system. You may change it to 0% so you get more bandwidth.
-From Start, Run, type gpedit.msc
-Please check pictures below how to configure it.

Right click on ResevableBandwidth, edit it.

Check Enable, set bandwidth to 0, then press OK.

-Restart you PC to take effect.

DNS Jumper utility:
One problem that Internet broadband user facing is slow access due to DNS resolving. Every time you access new address, your browser will ask the DNS server for its real IP address. Imagine your  provider's DNS server must serve thousands request at a time. Now, you may try such a tiny application to solve it: DNS Jumper.

Please download it here. It is portable application just extract and run the launcher.

How it works:
DNS Jumper will search any available high speed DNS server, and your request will be directed to that DNS server.

Click fast DNS to start DNS server searching.

Click to apply new DNS server

Now, try to browsing. You will find much faster response time.

Internet Boradband: AXIS vs Telkomsel Flash

I switch from Telkomsel Flash (Flash) to AXIS as my Internet provider. I am in Jakarta now, so I should not worry about AXIS 3G coverage.

I need more economical Internet service, I think Flash still too expensive for me. Flash gives me 350MB/14 days quota for Rp. 50.000, with 512kbps while in quota, speed limited to 64kbps after exceed quota. AXIS gives me 500MB/30 days for Rp. 49.000, with unlimited speed, 129kbps after exceed quota.

DNS Problem: How to clear DNS cache

I got a little shock :D, this blog is gone away for a moment. Not really gone anyway, I just got DNS cache problem with my browser.

You need to flush/clear the DNS cache as shown below:

Ericsson XL QoS Project: A Smart Way to Manage Bandwidth

I am in Ericsson XL Quality of Service (QoS) project for Jabodetabek area. This project will help XL to utilized its 3G network more efficient, avoid cell congestion, thus make its service more reliable to their customers.

XL's network in Jabodetabek is powered by recent Native Ethernet technology by Ericsson ML TN. This equipment support TCP/IP over the air. VLAN, traffic queuing and classification,are supported.

What is QoS?
In simple words: any packet data in the network traffic will be classified, higher class packet data will be prioritized other than lower class. For example, signaling and voice will be treated as top priority, while email/web packet data is lower priority.

This project should finish at the end of June 2012. I hope XL could serve the customers better :).

Yahoo web messenger

I like to use Yahoo! Messenger (YM) as my communication tool. And now YM available in web, you don't need to install the app, just login to your Yahoo! Mail to use it.

But upsss, my account doesn't show where to chat :).

You need to activate all feature, and mail interface will show some apps and online contact. Click on your online contact to start chat, that's it!

Many web service, such Facebook and Gmail offer chating feature. YM is my favorite chat, and Yahoo! should take care about this 'old school'.

Push email for Android

I wrote about push-email software for Symbian. Now, I post some free push-emai software for Android.

1. Gmail, not surprising right? Yeah its de facto emai client for Android. Don't worry, you also may setup non-gmail account, eg. your company email account. Integrate email into your contact book.

2. K9-Mail. Before you download, please read user review about this software. Many them say positive, so this free app worth to try. K9-Mail is open-source, you visit its page at k9mail.googlecode.com

3. Yahoo Mail. Only support for Yahoo! Email account. The good: Integrated with Yahoo! Messenger, push notification, preview photo in inbox. The Bad: Only support Yahoo! account, huh...

Those apps above are the best I found at market.android.com, don't worry you have many options there. Happy hunting :).

How To: Create Good Password

Some rule of thumb creating password for your computer and or online account:
-Do not contain your username. Example your username is james.bond, your password should not contain that word, eg. jamesS3cre7.
-Do not contain any of your personal information, eg. your real name, place and or date of birth, your pet's name, your parent's name, etc. Its social engineering, easy to identify your self by people or things around you.
-Easy to remember but hard to be guessed. Your password should contain lowercase, uppercase, number and special character eg. !@#$%^. Example, Gl0b4lwaRminx.
-Change your password at least every three month.
-You should not use same password for your critical service account such as your Internet Banking, with other service such social network sites.
